Discussions on bigotry and hate often remain highly general and experience-distant, because of their broad scope and international nature. More knowledge is needed about how state, sub-state, and regional actors have both come to understand these phenomena and develop strategies to prevent them. 

Prejudice against Jews and Muslims constitutes a fundamental thematic complex for the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies research into minorities. Individual studies of antisemitism and Islamophobia may therefore be described as part of a single ongoing research project.

Conspiracy theories reinforce and seek to engender fear in the population. The extent to which minority groups are encompassed by conspiracy theories and what ideas concerning Jews and Muslims are found in modern right-wing extremism are two key questions in the research conducted by the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies. 

Can rituals be a key component in a transformative democratic process for a society that provides a basis for tackling local and global crises? That is the question asked by the  SAMKUL project REDO. The project, which was funded by the Research Council of Norway and led by the University of Oslo, involved 21 researchers from three continents in the period 2013–2016.
