Christian anti-Semitism

Anti-Semitism has roots in Christianity. Since Judaism did not regard Jesus as the Messiah, it denied - in the eyes of the Christian church - God’s plan for the salvation of humankind. Having originally been seen as the antecedent to Christianity, Judaism eventually became an antithesis.

Martin Luther saw Jews as murderers of Christ. In 1543 Luther published the anti-Semitic pamphlet “On the Jews and Their Lies,” which included recommendations to expel Jews from the German towns and burn their houses and synagogues.
